Associate Professor Volkan Kahya

Volkan Kahya holds a B.S. (1989), a M.S. (1997), and a Ph.D. (2003), all in civil engineering in Karadeniz Technical University. Currently, He has been Associate Professor in the department of Civil Engineering at Karadeniz Technical University since 2013. He served as Research Assistant in 1995-2006 and Assistant Professor in 2006-2013 in the same department. He also worked as a visiting researcher at University of California, Irvine in 2008-2009, and made a short visit at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He undertook different administrative duties in Karadeniz Technical University. Now, he serves as Departmental Coordinator of Erasmus+ Program.
Dr. Kahya has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in engineering mechanics. His research area covers design and analysis of structures made up of laminated composite and functionally graded materials, structural health monitoring and damage assessment, dynamics of solids and structures under moving loads, passive and active vibration control. He has served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Structural Engineering & Applied Mechanics, an international peer-reviewed journal.
